Welcome to AVID

Welcome to the AVID homepage.  AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  At Carmel High School, AVID teaches students who already have the potential for success the skills necessary to excel in high school and beyond.

The benefits of AVID extend into every classroom.  Students learn:

  • Skills for studying

  • how to overcome points of confusion

  • how to advocate for themselves at school

  • what it takes to be prepared for college

Please review the AVID page for information about the principles, activities, and benefits of the AVID program.

What is AVID?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  AVID is a rigorous college preparatory program for students in grades 9-12 who have a strong desire to improve their study and test-taking skills.  This program is for highly motivated, average students with high standardized test scores who are looking to improve their GPA and attend college.  AVID is a four year elective class at Carmel High School and students receive elective credits for each semester of the class.
