Thank you for your interest in AVID! Recruitment for the 2019-2020 school year is underway, and the deadline is approaching.  Please contact the CHS AVID Coordinator, Jamie Newcomer, if your child did not receive an application and you would like to have one. 

Important Dates:

11/8/18:CHS Senior AVID students will visit Creekside MS, Clay MS, and Carmel MS to discuss the high school AVID program with interested 8th graders. These 30 minute meetings will take place during the school day and all 8th grade students are welcome to attend. There's no comitment to attend the meeting, this is just a time to gain information about CHS AVID. 

11/9/18: AVID Application link (Google Form) emailed to all 8th grade students who attended the CHS AVID informational meeting at their middle school. (See 11/8/18)

11/28/18: *UPDATED* Informational AVID Parent Meeting for current 8th grade parents in the Community Room at CHS. There will be 2 meetings: 10-11 am and another from 5:30- 6:30 pm. 

12/2/18: AVID Applications Deadline

Week of January 14th- 18th: AVID Interviews for qualifying AVID students held at CCS middle schools.

Welcome to AVID


Welcome to the AVID homepage.  AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  At Carmel High School, AVID is a rigorous, four year elective class offered to students who would like to prepare to take higher level courses in high school (AP, IB, ACP, or Dual Credit) and attend a 4-year college or university. The AVID curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, real-world learning opportunities, as well as college and career exploration and motivation. AVID students are taught how to take notes in core classes and how to organize papers and assignments for classes in a binder, and are expected to utilize these skills while at CHS. Requirements for admittance into the CHS AVID Program include satisfactory citizenship, good attendance,  average to above average GPA, desire and determination to work hard towards achieving college and career goals.

What is AVID?

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination.  AVID is a rigorous college preparatory program for students in grades 9-12 who have a strong desire to improve their study and test-taking skills.  This program is for highly motivated, average students with high standardized test scores who are looking to improve their GPA and attend college.  AVID is a four year elective class at Carmel High School and students receive elective credits for each semester of the class.

The AVID program is looking for college students who would be interested in working as a Tutor in the AVID classroom.  Tutors needed Wednesday and Thursday weekly during the school day.  The pay is $10 per hour.  Training for the program will be offered onsite.  If you would be interested, please contact Brittany Wiseman at (317) 846-7721 ext. 7483 or by email at bwiseman@ccs.k12.in.us
