Freshman Kickoff Info

Greyhound Kickoff 2017 will be on Friday, August 11th for the Class of 2021. The day will run from 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. with sign-in beginning at 9 a.m. in the Freshman Center Cafeteria.

Registration?
Incoming 9th graders will receive an email containing the registration form by the end of June.  The completed registration form should be mailed to Carmel High School prior to Kickoff to help us plan and organize the day. There is a $20 fee for the program which covers lunch, a t-shirt, an outstanding program and upcoming Freshmen Homecoming events. Please make checks payable to Carmel High School.

Late Registration?
Students who have not registered by August 1st may still attend by bringing their $20 to the late registration table on Kick-off day in the Freshman Center Cafeteria.

Drop-off? 
Please plan to arrive as close to 9 a.m. as possible. Registration ends at 9:30 a.m. Students should enter through Door 13 at the Freshman Center Entrance and proceed to the Freshman Center Cafeteria for registration; parents have the option to attend an informative coffee and will be directed to the Studio Theatre for the PTO Parent Coffee, if interested in attending.

Lunch?
We'll be serving a regular school lunch so that each freshman can see how the cafeteria lines work. Your cost for this is included in the registration fee so students won't need money for lunch.   Please plan to "brown bag" if your student has special dietary needs.

Schedules? 
Freshmen for the class of 2021 should pick up their fall semester schedules in the main cafeteria on Wednesday, August 9th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., get their school picture taken, and pick up their student ID.   They may also walk their schedules and check out their lockers if they like.  There will also be tables set up at this time for the following:

  • Parents to join the PTO (fill out the card, $10 payable to CHS PTO)

  • Purchase season tickets or all-sport passes for you and/or your child (Student All-Sport Pass is $40 payable to CHS- price subject to change annually). Order forms are available online at Carmelgreyhounds.com

  • Purchase a yearbook for $65 (checks payable to CHS Yearbook- price subject to change annually) in room C145

  • If needed, pick up free/reduced lunch/textbook assistance applications

All students will receive an additional copy of their schedule on Kickoff Day so that they can practice opening their lockers and walking their schedule of classes.


School Pictures?
School pictures will not be taken as part of our Kick-off day activities. Rather, freshmen may have their pictures taken during schedule pick up in the main cafeteria on Wednesday, August 9th.   If unable to attend on the August 9th designated day,  Freshmen may also choose to take their pictures on the morning of Kickoff Day before they start (from 8 – 9 a.m.) or after our Kick-off day concludes (from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m.). Students should bring the school picture order form that was included in the summer mailing if they want to order pictures, along with a check for the package of their choice.

What to Wear?
Wear comfortable casual clothes (jeans or shorts, comfortable shoes, etc.) which are appropriate for school.

Student Pick-up?
Parents: please plan on picking up your student at 2:00 p.m. in the Freshman Center parking lot (Entrance 13).  They will exit Door 13 and meet you in the parking lot.

“PARENT to PARENT” INFORMATIONAL COFFEES
Our CHS PTO will be hosting two, informational “Parent to Parent” Coffees.  The first coffee will be on Thursday, August 10th from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.  The second opportunity to attend will be on Friday, August 11th from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Both coffees provide the same information and will be held in the CHS Studio Theatre.  PTO members will greet you at either the Main (Door #2) or Freshman Center (Door #13) entrances to direct you. The agenda will include information about Kick-off, a typical day at CHS, how to prepare your child for school, schedules, counseling, SRT, attendance, Health Center, homework, CHS lingo, and other parent tips.
