Activities

Clay PTO supports many Clay Middle activities throughout the school year through funding and/or organizing volunteers.  Thanks to the generous donations and time provided by parents of Clay students we are able to assist with:

  • Clay Challenge: A school wide event, usually held in September.   Students participate in fun actitivites, complete a 3K run/walk and hear special presentation by guest speaker. PTO helps fund this event and provides volunteers for the outdoor run/walk.
  • After School Study Hall: Help fund this program for students.
  • After School student clubs: Help fund these for students.
  • Media Center & Book Fair: Help organize volunteers for weekly volunteers in Media Center and for the Book Fair usually held in Fall.
  • Book Store: Volunteers to staff the Book Store that is open weekly throughout school year during lunch hours.
  • Staff Appreciation/Tuesday Treats:  Provide treats for special recognition dates throughout year and through the "Tuesday Treats" program organizes special Tuesday morning treats for Teachers and Staff.
  • Hospitality: Help welcome families to the school through welcome tables at Back to School dates.
  • Eighth Grade Celebration: Help plan and chaperone the end of year celebration activities for outgoing 8th graders.
  • Concessions Stand:  Help organize volunteers to run the Concession stand during athletic events held at Clay Middle. Sell popcorn, beverages and candies to athletes and their families!

After School Study Hall

The PTO continues to sponsor AFTER SCHOOL STUDY HALL on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons immediately after school. Students can use this time to study independently, do research projects, or receive specific help from teachers. Teachers can also request students stay due to Clay’s NO-ZERO Policy.

*THE STUDY HALL TAKES PLACE ON TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY FROM 3:15-4:10 P.M.

*STUDENTS WANTING TO ATTEND THE AFTER-SCHOOL STUDY HALL WILL NEED TO ASK A TEACHER TO SIGN THEM UP AND HAVE COMMUNICATED WITH THEIR PARENT(S) TO CONFIRM.

*EACH EVENING THE AFTER SCHOOL STUDY HALL WILL BE LIMITED TO THE FIRST 10 STUDENTS WHO NEED ASSISTANCE ON MATH/SCIENCE; THE FIRST 10 STUDENTS WHO NEED ASSISTANCE FOR LANGUAGE ARTS/SOCIAL STUDIES; AND THE FIRST 10 STUDENTS WHO NEED ACCESS TO THE COMPUTER LAB. DURING THE FINAL TWO WEEKS OF EACH QUARTER ALL OF THE COMPUTERS IN THE MEDIA CENTER WILL BE AVAILABLE UP TO A MAXIMUM OF 30 STUDENTS. IN ADDITION, THERE WILL BE ROOM FOR UP TO 20 STUDENTS EACH EVENING WHO ARE THERE BECAUSE OF A “NO-ZERO” PROCEDURE IN PLACE BY A TEACHER OR WHO JUST NEED A QUIET PLACE TO STUDY.

*STUDENTS MUST STAY IN THE AFTER SCHOOL STUDY HALL UNLESS THEY HAVE A COMMITMENT WITH ANOTHER SCHOOL EVENT AND THAT TEACHER/COACH HAS ASKED THEM TO BE RELEASED EARLY. BECAUSE STUDENTS ARE TAKING A SLOT WE WOULD EXPECT THEM TO STAY UNTIL 4:05 OTHERWISE.

*STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE A RIDE AT SCHOOL AT 4:10 P.M. WILL BE REQUIRED TO RIDE THE LATE BUS HOME.

Study Hall is not detention and should not be viewed as punitive in nature. It is simply a way for students to find outside help with their studies. Students do have to sign up by lunch on the day for which they want to attend; then after packing their backpack, simply go to the Media Center after school. They will sign in there.

There is a Late Bus available to students that stay for study hall or any after school club.  Students need to get a bus pass from the "Supervising" teacher. The bus leaves at approximately 4:20pm and makes stops depending on the rider's address.  Please keep in mind most students will most likely not be dropped off directly at their address or at their normal bus stop.
