Cherry Tree Elementary is one of eleven elementary schools in the Carmel Clay School Corporation. Cherry Tree opened its doors to the public in August 1989. The school houses Kindergarten through Fifth Grade inclusive classrooms, Early Childhood and Functional Academics programs, along with special education resources available to students who would benefit by it, including Speech, Communication, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. The building facility features an open-access Media Center, two networked, up-to-date computer labs, and a large group instruction area. A Broadcast Center was added in 2001 including technology tools which support a live news show each morning. All teachers use a variety of technology tools including, but not limited to, the Internet, LCD projectors, document cameras, SMART boards, Mobis, CPS systems, and laptops.
The curriculum and time allotments meet Carmel Clay standards and exceed state requirements. Incorporated into the types of experiences offered to the students are inquiry, cooperative learning, whole and small group instruction, learning centers, team planning/teaching, computer interaction, manipulative use, performance grouping, differentiated instruction, inclusion, literature circles/book clubs, and a balanced literacy framework.
