Other Services

As a result of its fundraising efforts and volunteerism, the CTE PTO is able to provide and/or support an impressive array of programs, clubs, events, learning enhancements, technologies, supplies and other services to enhance the student experience at CTE.  Below are details about some of the CTE PTO’s recent other service offerings.

Classroom Helpers:  The PTO Classroom Coordinators designate a lead classroom parent for each K-5 classroom via a lottery system.  The lead classroom parents organize volunteers to (i) run the Winter and Valentine’s Parties and (ii) perform other tasks, as requested by the applicable teacher.

Display Cases:  PTO volunteers create display case exhibits throughout CTE in an effort to brighten the hallways, increase awareness, and encourage school spirit.

Families in Need:  The PTO assists CTE families in need, as determined by the CTE Nurse and/or the CTE Student Services Coordinator, by paying for expenses such as clothes, school-sponsored field trip fees, and snacks for after-school programs.

Fifth Grade T-Shirts:  The CTE PTO organizes and purchases commemorative t-shirts for each fifth grade student to wear on field trips (e.g., Jamestown and BizTown) throughout the school year.

Front Office Support:  From time to time, CTE staff needs assistance with special projects or administrative tasks.  The PTO strives to fulfill those needs.

ISTEP+ Snacks:  During certain standardized testing weeks, the PTO provides and delivers healthy snacks (e.g., fruits and mints) to student test takers.

Kindergarten Thanksgiving Feast:  Each year the Kindergarten classes enjoy a Thanksgiving Feast sponsored by the CTE PTO.

Media Center Volunteers:  Under the direction of CTE’s Media Center Specialist, approximately fifty PTO volunteers help keep the Media Center running smoothly throughout the year.

Newcomer Programs & Services:  The PTO manages a Newcomer Buddy Program that pairs new CTE families with veteran CTE families to share experiences and information. The PTO Newcomers Committee also leads building tours in early August, provides informational materials at the Ice Cream Social and Kindergarten Orientation, and assists the principal in planning and sponsoring a newcomers coffee for families joining CTE midyear.

Newsletter and Publicity:  The PTO publishes an electronic monthly newsletter in an effort to keep CTE families aware of current happenings. The PTO also works with the Carmel Clay School District’s Community Relations Liaison to publicize CTE PTO-supported initiatives, programs and events.

Nurse Support:  The CTE PTO supports the CTE Nurse when assistance is needed with wellness initiatives and the purchase of clinic supplies.

School Board Liaisons:  Designated PTO volunteers attend bimonthly meetings and workshops of the Carmel Clay School Board in an effort to keep CTE families aware of relevant issues and happenings.

Spirit Wear Sales:  Each fall, the PTO organizes a CTE and Carmel spirit wear sale.  Items are sold for a limited time.

Student Council Support:  The PTO manages and supports a water station during the student council’s annual fundraiser (i.e., Riley Walk-A-Thon).

Teacher & Staff Appreciation and Hospitality:  Throughout the school year, the PTO shows appreciation for CTE teachers and staff members by providing them gifts of appreciation and hosting three luncheons and a pancake breakfast. Among those included in these acts of recognition are the principal, assistant principal, nurse, student services coordinator, custodial and maintenance staff, bus drivers and bus aids, support staff, food services staff, instructional assistants, and teachers.

Teacher Wish List Grants:  The PTO sponsors the purchase of special classroom items upon a teacher’s request and subject to the principal’s approval.

Wellness Initiatives:  The PTO provides funds to purchase prizes for certain students in the CTE
running/walking club.

Recess Equipment:  The PTO regularly funds the purchase of new and replacement recess equipment for all grades.
