Profile

The present College Wood building opened in the fall of 2004, the same year as Creekside Middle School.  The 126th Street/Shelborne campus now is the home of a transportation office with school bus storage and West Clay, another K-5 elementary school.  An outdoor learning lab and various athletic fields and playgrounds are also part of the campus.

Every classroom of students is supported by a host of staff members in addition to the classroom teacher.  All children benefit from the daily presence of a registered nurse, student service coordinator, Art, Music, P.E, Spanish teachers, a Media Specialist and Office personnel.  In addition, children qualifying to receive additional or special services are given needed support.  Custodial, food service and bus drivers compliment the school by keeping a clean, healthy and safe daily environment.

The original College Wood Elementary school was located at 400 South Guilford and served Carmel families from 1968 to 2004.  Over the years, College Wood has had national recognition as a Blue Ribbon School and State recognition as a Four Star School.  Academic teams representing College Wood have consistently scored in the top twenty five percent of participating schools.

Mascot

The cardinal is the state bird.  Our cardinal mascot was named "Jimmy Cardinal" after Mr. James Moore when he retired as principal of College Wood Elementary.
