The administration and staff of College Wood are proud to be implementing a brand new social and emotional learning curriculum to students this year. Social Thinking (authored by Michelle Garcia Winner) lessons teach a common language to support students in their own social awareness, self-regulation, emotional management and perspective taking experiences. Within the lessons various characters demonstrate unexpected behaviors while lead character “Superflex” teaches coping skills and models expected behaviors.
You are invited to learn more about Social Thinking and how you as parents can utilize the program elements to support your student both at school and at home. The documents linked to the right will introduce Social Thinking, some of its common language and its cast of characters, as well as behavior mapping and problem solving tools which you can begin exploring within your own families.
As parents, educators and administrators working together we have unlimited potential for teaching our students to successfully navigate the complex social world in which they’re growing up today. I urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about Social Thinking and the value it adds to our partnership.
