Academic Bowls

 What are the Academic Bowls?

The academic bowls consist of Spell Bowl, Science Bowl, and M.A.T.H. Bowl. These academic bowls allow for students to compete with other academic teams at the local and state level. If you’d like to learn more about the academic bowls, visit http://www.iasp.org/dsp/academic/

Who Can Participate?

The academic bowls are open to all 4th and 5th grade students. Each academic bowl team competes at a different point in the year. Announcements regarding tryout dates will be made on CWE-TV New broadcasts, as well as sent home via School Messenger. The competition dates for each academic bowl team are as follows:

Spell Bowl: November 17, 2016

Science Bowl: late January 2017

M.A.T.H. Bowl: February 23, 2017

When Do the Academic Bowl Teams Meet?

The academic bowl teams will meet at various times of the year, depending upon their competition date.  Those students who try out for a team and are invited to join the team will meet for practice on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, before school, from  7:15-8:05. A detailed practice schedule will be provided for each team, once they have been determined.

How Much Does It Cost?

There is no fee to join the team, however, if a student is selected to join a team they will have to purchase a team shirt to wear for the competition. The price for the shirt varies based on color scheme and design, but generally falls within the price range of $10.00 to $15.00. The students will get to keep their shirts.
