College Wood Elementary PTO is excited to offer the Math Pentathlon Club again this year. Registration for Math Pentathlon takes place in the fall of each school year. Below is a list of frequently asked questions. If you need further assistance, please email Aimee Wiegmann.
What is Math Pentathlon?
What grade levels is this club for?
All grades, K-5 can participate! There are 3 divisions at the elementary level; each division plays their own games. Division I is Kindergarten & 1st grade, Division II is 2nd & 3rd grades, and Division III is 4th and 5th grades. There is a minimum of six and maximum of sixteen students for each division.
Does my child need to be “good at math” to enjoy this club?
When does Math Pentathlon meet?
Does my child really need to be at every meeting?
Yes! We understand that kids get sick, and things sometimes come up. With that said, if you can’t plan on being at every meeting, then please consider that Math Pentathlon may not be the right fit for you. The College Wood Elementary students who competed last year practiced weekly without losing interest. We’re confident that the students will have fun and be successful if they (and their families) commit to being an active member of the Math Pentathlon Team!
Can you tell me more about the tournament?
All students who participate in the club are submitted for the Indiana/Ohio Regional Tournament, held in Indianapolis in the spring. Our club collects the fees as part of registration then submits them to the tournament. We also register your child as part of the club signup. Tournament information can be found at the National Math Pentathlon website http://www.mathpentath.org. One parent volunteer must be present for every two children attending.
Does a parent have to volunteer?
We do need the help and support of all the parents. Math Pentathlon club is a great way to get involved with the school and your child. Many parents enjoy participating with their children and get to see them learn and grow with new skills & challenges. There are options for different volunteer opportunities through the online registration form. All volunteers need to have a criminal history check on file and have viewed the anti-bullying video. If you need to complete either of those, there is information in the registration link. Students whose parents agree to be a weekly volunteer for all the meetings will be placed on the club list above those whose parents do not. We will need a commitment of at least three shifts per family to run the divisions.
Can I be more involved?
How will I learn to the games that we facilitate during our volunteer shift?
How do I register for the College Wood Elementary Math Pentathlon Club?
We are holding online registrations with the links being published September 7, 2016. Registration remain open until Friday, September 23, 2016. All fees and volunteer shifts must be committed by the close date otherwise your Pentathlete will be moved to the waitlist.
How do I sign up to volunteer?
How do I know if my child has a spot in the club?
You will receive a confirmation email no later than Sunday, September 25, 2016 confirming your child has a spot in the Math Pentathlon Club or if they have been placed on the wait-list for their grade-level division. The maximum number of Pentathletes is 16 per Division.
How much does it cost?
The fee for the Math Pentathlon Club is $70, payable to the College Wood Elementary PTO through the registration link. This fee includes the student’s tournament fee ($40), and the balance is towards the club tshirt, the purchasing and upkeep of the games & activities we’ll use during practice, and our end of the year celebration.
