Welcome Back Students and Families! We are excited to share that this will be our third year with two Student Services Coordinators (SSC) here at Forest Dale Elementary School. This will be Shannon Bassett’s sixth year at Forest Dale and Angelica Nevins is starting her third school year.
Shannon has previously worked as the School Social Worker at Sycamore Elementary in Kokomo, IN for 6 years. Prior to that, she worked for 5 years as a Home-based Therapist with a mental health center in Indianapolis. Sixteen years of working with children and families has given her a variety of experiences that allows her to meet the needs of our Forest Dale families.
Angelica graduated with her Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Indiana University. She has experience in the community mental health and private practice settings as a school-based therapist and as a clinician for youth. Her background assists in encouraging all students to strive for their personal best while addressing the needs that interfere with the educational process.
Shannon will be the point of contact for Kindergarten, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Angelica will be the point of contact for 1st, 4th and 5th grades. Please know we will each consider all students and families to be our shared students and families.
As a reminder, our role here at Forest Dale is a diverse one. We coordinate standardized testing, Challenge testing, and special education testing. You may also hear from us regarding attendance.
Most importantly though, we are here as a resource to students and families. We are available to meet with students individually or in groups to address a variety of social-emotional needs. We do several lunch time groups to enhance social skills and study skills, as well as groups to increase emotional coping skills. Students can be referred to us by a teacher, administrator, parent, or refer themselves. You may see us in the classrooms doing whole group activities as well. We can also be a resource families that may require assistance with food, clothing, or any other need that may come up. Our priority is supporting students and families, so please do not hesitate to contact either of us:
