YHBA Books

Young Hoosier Book Award

The Young Hoosier Book Award (YHBA) program, established by the Indiana Library Federation, is intended to promote recreational reading among Indiana students.  Each year, the YHBA committees select 20 books for the Picture Book list for grades K-3, 20 books for the Intermediate list for grades 4-6, and 20 books for the Middle Grade list for grades 6-8.

Battle of the Books!

Fourth and fifth grade students who read at least 5 titles from the list may join a team to participate in the YHBA Battle of the Books in the spring.

  • Teams are composed of 5 students from the same grade level.
  • Battles will take place during lunch starting in April.
  • Brackets for each grade level will be posted in the library, along with a schedule of battles.
  • All members of a team must be present for a battle.
  • Each team should bring a scorekeeper to each battle.
  • Each student on the winning teams of 4th and 5th graders will receive a trophy.

Come join the fun!
