Semester One Club Descriptions by Grade

Student Council (application required)
Grade Level:  5th Grade Only
Sponsors:  Mr. Barajas, Mrs. Kistler & Mrs. Meyer
Meeting Dates:  Thursday 9/6, 10/4, 11/1, 12/6
Description:  Promote positive behavior and school spirit.  Students will lead by example in and outside of the classroom.  Members will help with all PTO functions throughout the school year.  Maximum of 20 students will be selected by sponsors & staff.

Space Club
Grade Level:  5th Grade Only
Sponsors:  Mrs. Rumschlag and Mrs. Panschar
Meeting Dates:  Thursday 9/6, 9/13, 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/29, 12/6, 12/13
Description:  This new club for 5th graders will use online resources and hands on activities provided by the Link Observatory, to teach students about space.  This club will be limited to 25 students. See Mrs. Rumschlag for registration form.

Turtle Helpers (application required)
Grade Level:  4th & 5th
Sponsors:  Mrs. Yoder
Meeting Dates:  Thursday 9/6, 10/4, 11/1, 12/6
Description:  Meetings focus on building SEL skills in students grades 4-5 so they can mentor younger grades throughout the year.  Maximum number of students will be 20 selected by sponsor.

Spell Bowl (tryout required)
Grade Level:  4th & 5th
Sponsors:  Mrs. Struve & Miss Roberts
Meeting Dates:  Tuesday & Friday Mornings @ 7:25 am beginning Friday September 14th.
Description:  This club is for any 4th or 5th grader interested in competing in the district spelling competition representing Mohawk Trails on Thursday, November 15th.  Students will try-out for this team on Wednesday, August 29th at 7:25 am in Miss Roberts’ classroom or on Thursday on August 30th at 7:25 am in Mrs. Struve’s classroom.

Computer Coding & Robotics Club (application required)
Grade Level:  4th & 5th
Sponsors:  Mrs. Rumschlag, Miss Hayes
Meeting Dates:  Wednesday 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12, & 12/19
Description:  Students learn coding basics, progressing at their own speed through video tutorials in code.org and scratch.  Sharing knowledge with each other is essential and we invite CHS students to teach new skills. Returning 5th graders have the option of building and programming VEX Robots.  This club is limited to 25 students. See Mrs. Rumschlag for registration form.

Spark Club
Grade Level:  4th & 5th

Meeting Dates:  Tuesday 9/4, 9/13, 10/2
Description:  Students identify a need in the school community and find a way to fund it.  We will pitch our idea to a panel of community business leaders to ask for seed money. This is a brainchild of our high school DECA club.  This club is a continuation from last year, so the roster is predetermined. Students that participated last year will work on project. Registration for the new school year will be sent out at the end of October with meeting dates scheduled for November.

MTE Choir (click on link to register)
Grade Level:  4th & 5th

Description:  Students in grades 4th & 5th sing two and three part music in multiple languages.  The choir will perform for school, local, and state events, including those sponsored by the Indiana Music Education Association.  Spring choirs will include the IMEA Circle the State with Song Indianapolis Festival Choir and the IMEA All-State Honor Choir. To be eligible for auditions and participation in the state-sponsored choral festivals, students must have participated in the fall MTE Choir.

MTE Orff Ensemble (click on link to register)

Description:  Students will perform music from many countries and their own pieces on world percussion, including drums, xylophones, recorders and other instruments.  Orff Ensemble performs at school, local and state events during the year. Pup Running-Registration required (Reistration is closed)
Grade Level: 4th & 5th Grade

Meeting Dates:  Wednesday, 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19
Description:  Carmel school-based youth running program that is committed to encouraging fitness among elementary age children through the sport of running.  There are three meets schedule, Thursday 9/13 at 5:30 pm, Thursday, 9/20 at 5:30 pm and Tuesday, 9/25 at 5:30 pm. All meets will be at Northview Church XC Course.  No late registrations will be accepted. Registration forms sent home with students. Green Team
Grade Level:  3rd, 4th & 5th

Description:  :  The MTE Green Team is part of a district-wide initiative to further understanding and inspire action on environmental issues.  Students learn about environmental issues, share with MTE community, and participate in hands-on activities. This club is limited to 30 students.  See Mrs. Rumschlag for registration form.

Spanish Club (6 week club)

Bloxels Club (6 week club)
Grade Level:  3rd Grade Only

Book Club (5 week club beginning October 17th)
Grade Level:  2nd & 3rd

Description:  This club reads books, identifies problems characters face in the story, think of ways to solve those problems and engineer a solution. See Mrs. Higgins for registration information.

Water Color Club (6 week club)

P.O.W.E.R. Ambassadors (application required)
Grade Level: K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

Meeting Dates:  Wednesday 9/12, 10/9, 11/14, 12/12
Description:  Students will present on morning announcements and film demonstration videos for P.O.W.E.R expectations.  They should be comfortable reading on camera and some will do some script writing. Two representatives from each grade level will be selected by sponsor.

Engineering Club
Grade Level: K, 1st, 2nd

Description:  Introduce development of structures, bridges and electrical engineering.  Each student will learn geometry, problem solving and creative teamwork abilities.  Contact Roxanne Hite at roxvb8@aol.com for details.  This club is limited to 10 students.

Math Pentathlon (Division 1, 2 & 3)--Application required
Grade Level: K-1 (Division 1), 2-3 (Division 2), 4-5 (Division 3)

Description:  National program consisting of interactive problem-solving games and activities.  Math principles are incorporated into fun board games designed to enhance problem solving, computational, geometric/spatial, and logical reasoning skills.
