Resource Social Skills is a class that uses instructional approaches to teach children proactive social skills. Helping students develop a positive self-esteem is a foundational component to social skill development. Social-emotional competence is taught as a critical part of every child's well being. Teaching students to deal with negative emotions that trigger inappropriate behaviors allows them the learning opportunity to put coping strategies into place and find positive ways to deal with negative emotions. Finally, social mapping and visual stories are used to connect behavior, emotions and consequences throughout the school day. Appropriate behaviors are taught to replace the unexpected behaviors.
