My name is Ashley Hartowicz and I am so excited to be your child's 1st grade teacher for the 2016-2017 school year! I grew up in Carmel, Indiana and attended Carmel Clay Schools all throughout my childhood. I graduated from Ball State University in December of 2007 with a dual degree in Elementary Education and Special Education: Mild Interventions.
My first experience with Carmel Clay Schools began in the fall of 2007 when I student taught in 2nd grade at Forest Dale Elementary. My first year at West Clay was the 2008-2009 school year, where I was a 2nd grade instructional assistant. That same year, I was fortunate enough to experience a short-term position as a kindergarten teacher and another one as a 4th grade teacher, both at WCE. My first full year of teaching began in fifth grade during the 2009-2010 school year. I then went on to teach first grade, third grade, and then moved back to first grade. The 2015-2016 school year will mark my eighth year as a full-time teacher, and my sixth year in first grade.
My husband and I got married on December 19, 2009. We have two beautiful red headed little girls named Heidi and Natalie. Heidi is 3 years old and Natalie is 6 months old. We also have a beagle/chocolate lab named Penny. In our spare time, Mr. Hartowicz and I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching movies, exercising, working on home improvement projects, and traveling. Other activities that I enjoy include reading, writing, decorating, working out, pilates and yoga, walking, gardening, and playing with my girls. I absolutely love teaching first grade, and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!
