I am currently beginning my 22nd year in the Carmel-Clay Schools; this is my seventh year at Smoky Row Elementary School. I have taught fifth grade in Carmel-Clay Schools for 20 years. I have taught 2/3 Challenge, 4/5 Challenge, and 5th grade Challenge/General Education cluster for many years.
I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Indiana University. I have taken over thirty additional hours beyond my Master’s in phonics classes, AIMS Science and Math class, Writing Initiative class from Indiana University, and several computer / technology integration classes. Over the years I have been the Math Lead Teacher, Math Bowl Coach, Spell Bowl Coach, Math Pentathlon Instructor, Student Council Advisor, and a Smoky Row Lead Teacher. I have been attending literacy / writing workshops with Smekens Education for 7 years.
I have taught children in various stages of development from infants up through fifth grade. I have taught in Indianapolis Public Schools, at Southport Elementary School, in Indianapolis, in Charlottesville, VA, in New Fairfield, CT, and at local church preschools and daycare centers. I have been a full-time volunteer in the Carmel-Clay schools, substitute teacher, Room Mother, Brownie Leader, PTO volunteer, and Carmel High School Marching Band Uniform mom.
My husband, Jim, and I have two daughters who are married and either teach in early childhood education or run a home business. Mindy lives in the Westfield area and Stacy lives in Brownsburg . Our 7 grandsons, Ethan (17), Cole (15), Harrison (15), Gibson (13), Reed (12), Dawson (11), and Anderson (7), and one granddaughter, Jillian (9), keep us entertained and busy. They are all quite involved in soccer, baseball, basketball, marching band, and swimming. Our annual family vacation to Gulf Shores, Alabama, is a long standing tradition. It takes a large house to hold 6 adults and 8 active children.
Our household has one dog, Merlin.
