HI! I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Colleen Burt and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year! Our own children attended this elementary, and we have wonderful memories of our great Woodbrook experiences throughout those 12 years.
My family moved frequently while I was growing up, but I was primarily raised in Michigan. I received my education at Winona State University in Minnesota and then transferred to Ball State University where I completed my degree in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement.
I am happily married to my husband, Stan, and we are blessed with four children ~ two sons and two daughters. Our three oldest, all attended IU and are now living on their own. Andrew is engaged and is currently employed by a university in Portland, Oregon where he works in marketing and represents their Travel Abroad program. Rachel just graduated from Loyola Med School and is beginning her residency in Emergency Medicine in Chicago. Following a tragic accident, our son, Justin, has spent the past three years in different rehab facilities after suffering a spinal cord injury . We are very grateful that, given the seriousness of his injury, he is able to walk again and is now living on his own! Emily, our youngest, has decided to follow in Mom's footsteps and just graduated from IU with a dual degree in Elementary Ed and Special Ed. She just landed her first job and will be teaching 3rd grade in Pendleton!
I began my career teaching in the primary grades at public schools and then chose to be a stay-at-home mom while raising our four kids. Later, I went back to work part-time in the field of Early Childhood Education teaching Kindergarten and Preschool classes for several years. I have had the opportunity to teach Remedial Reading, Preschool, Kindergarten, Third Grade, and First Grade ~ my favorite! I can't think of another job that brings more diversity, reward, and joy than teaching. :)
This is my 12th year teaching First Grade here at Woodbrook. I absolutely adore working with children of this age! They are loving, enthusiastic, and eager to learn! It is my goal to give your child the same opportunities that I would want for my own. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you should have any questions or concerns. I am sincerely looking forward to sharing a fantastic year with your little one, and I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of his/her life!
