Many of Mrs. Garrison's students receive speech services using the “5-minute Kids” model, designed by Sue Sexton. With this service delivery model, students receive intensive, individual, drill-based therapy sessions for five minutes four to five days a week. Data has been collected suggesting that this approach results in quicker carryover of correct sound production and less time enrolled in a speech therapy program. I’m very excited about this program because students will get daily intensive work on their target sounds, opposed to once or twice a weekly. Additionally students will miss less classroom instruction as they are only out of the classroom for five minutes at a time.
This service delivery model is intended for students with mild to moderate articulation disorders and will not be implemented with students who have more severe articulation needs or with language goals.
Please contact Mrs. Garrison if you have any questions or would like more information about the program.
