Mr. Grifa is the Co-Director of Bands as well as the auditorium director at Creekside Middle School. Prior to teaching at Creekside, Mr. Grifa taught in Bloomington, Indiana as well as Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mr. Grifa received his bachelor’s degree in music education and trombone performance from Old Dominion University located in Norfolk, Virginia. While at Old Dominion, Mr. Grifa had the pleasure of being a member of the Virginia Wind Symphony under the direction of Mr. Dennis Zeisler. Mr. Grifa performed with The Virginia Wind Symphony at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL in 2004.
Mr. Grifa’s bands continually receive high praise from both clinicians and adjudicators. Most recently the Creekside Wind Symphony performed at the 2013 IMEA State Convention and is currently in preparation for a performance at the 2013 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic held in Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Grifa has also been called on as a clinician and adjudicator across the country.
Besides teaching middle school band, Mr. Grifa has been heavily involved with high school marching band, as well as Drum and Bugle Corps. He is currently on the music staff with the Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds, which won its fourth ISSMA State Championship in November of 2012 as well its second Bands of America Grand National Championship in November 2012. Mr. Grifa was a member of the brass staff of the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from 2007-2009 as well as on the Bluecoats brass staff in 2005 and 2006.
