Dear Creekside Families,
Beginning this year, all Carmel Clay middle schools will be using NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association) assessments to determine your child’s instructional level, as well as measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of reading, language usage, and math. Your child will be taking these assessments on a computer and not during instructional time during the school day.
The NWEA assessment your child will participate in is called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. By using MAP assessments, students will spend less time testing and your child’s teacher will receive detailed, accurate information about your child’s academic progress and growth.
The MAP test will be given twice during the school year. Once in the fall (September) and the second testing window will be early second semester (January). Your child’s team teachers will share the specific dates that your student will be testing.
We are truly excited to implement an assessment system that focuses on every
child’s individual growth and achievement.
