Typical Peers

As an early childhood classroom many students in the class have special needs. Typical peers are also an important part of the classroom. A typical peer is a child that is the same age as the other children in my classroom who are following a typical track of development. This gives the students with special needs a strong language, behavior, and social model to follow and learn from. It is also an opportunity for the typical child to learn to accept differences in others, gain leadership skills, and make new friends. The curriculum taught in the classroom is utilized with both typical children and children with special needs to ensure that every child is challenged and taught at their level of development.

If you are interested in having your child enter the classroom as a typical peer you can contact me to schedule a screening. I will screen your child to ensure that they will be a strong language model, an appropriate behavior model, and will interact with the other children in social situations. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
