Explore Asia! Country Research Project

The single item most affecting student grades for Mr. Dux's Social Studies classes for the 4th Quarter is the Explore Asia! Country Reseach Project.  Students signed up for a country located in Asia or the Pacific Islands, and each student in each class has a separate country.  Directions were distributed and country sign-ups took place in March--more than a month in advance of the due date.

The project affects student grades on both the Assessment and Assignment portions.

A Government Worksheet, which was assigned and due before Spring Break, is an Assignment grade worth 20 points (a double homework grade).

A presentation in front of class during which a student introduces a visual product is due May 2, although the verbal presentation dates are yet to be assigned.  The visual product includes the student's choice of either making a poster or a slide show.  This visual product and the presentation combined form an Assessment grade worth 80 points.  The visual portion of the product that is shared on or before May 2 will be graded.  Each day late will incur a 10% penalty (a reduction of a letter grade) for either the Assessment and/or the Assignment grade.  Students can continue to edit their product for their presentation to the class, but the visual product that will actually be graded is due May 2.  Slide shows must be done on Google Slides and shared with Mr. Dux by 11:59 PM on May 2, and the student MUST give me editing privleges.  Posters are also due at that time.

The Scoresheets for this project were shared with students on April 13 and 16.  We will also go over verbal presentation expectations in class the week of April 16-20, but the general requirements are written in the lower right box of the Scoresheet.

Exact presentation dates will be assigned the week of April 23-27.

India/South Asia Test

The first test of the 4th Quarter will be the India/South Asia Test, and it will take place on Thursday and Friday, April 19 & 20, during class.  The test was announced two weeks in advance, but was pushed back one day.  Study Guides were completed by Thursday and Friday, April 12 & 13.

Things to Study:

1)  India/South Asia Study Guide.  Students were told that MOST test questions will be about India, but some questions about other countries should be expected--just as the Study guide devotes 2/3 of the space to India itself.

2)  A review of India/Souith Asia Vocabulary can be helpful.

3)  Any Warm-Up having to do with India.
