I follow directions and do the right thing.

Week of September 26

Language Arts:

This week we will be reading about the early settlers and the westward expansion during our guided reading time.  Your student will again be bringing these books home to practice.  We have begun reading the Novel "Salt" written by Helen Frost.  This book is told by the perspective of a Native American and a settler.  The students are having great discussions about what we have read so far.  Our reading mini-lessons are going to focus on Prefixes and Suffixes.  In writing we will continue to write true stories focusing on tiny moments with a person or special place.  This week we will be finishing up our published piece.  The students are truly growing as writers.

Science/Social Studies:

This week our chapter in our TCI social studies book focuses on the Midwest.  This chapter is called "Agricultural Changes in the Midwest".  The children will also be observing the moon.  Please encourage them to write their observations with the terms we learned in class and at the planetarium.

Monday we will be reviewing chapter 2 with our test on Tuesday.  Your child should have brought a review packet home to practice last week.  We will begin chapter 3 on Wednesday.  This chapter will consist of measurement, perimeter, and area.  We will be doing Rocket Math on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Please practice facts nightly.  Please ask your child what letter they are on.  If your child is not passing, please have him/her get some practice sheets from me.  We need to be finished with subtraction by the end of the first semester.
