Physical Education Philosophy

Physical education is more than physical, it is a building block to life. Here, students will not only increase their knowledge and skill development, but they will also aid their self-esteem. Building students confidence, giving them challenges and providing opportunities to practice are ways to educate as well as motivate.

About Physical Education

In this physical education program, fitness will be stressed and emphasized as a lifetime goal. The Fitnessgram will be done three times a year. Skills and skill development will also be a large part of the physical education program. Class time will be spent covering units such as soccer, basketball, hockey and volleyball, as well as trying new skills that will challenge the students’ skill development.

The fitnessgram is a complete battery of health-related fitness items that are scored using criterion-referenced standards.  These standards are age and gender specific and are established based on how fit children need to be for good health.  Tests that will be done are push-ups (upper body strength), trunk lift (flexibility), PACER (cardiovascular endurance), curl-ups (admonial strength).  A print out will be sent home of the results of these tests for 4th and 5th graders twice a year.
