Hello, I'm Patrick Murphy, the Physical Education and Wellness Teacher at Carmel EIementary. This is my 7th year teaching at CE.
I am proud to say that I have been a “hoosier” my whole life. I grew up on the Northeast side of Indianapolis, attending Lawrence Township schools from first grade through high school. I attended Indiana University in Bloomington where I majored in Sports Communication and also IUPUI where I received my degree in Physical Education and Health. After graduation, I worked in Washington Township as a Title I Literacy Assistant where I helped struggling readers improve their literacy skills.
I enjoy spending much of my free time with family, friends, daughter Eva and dog Micky. ! I’m a big fan of outdoor activities including: biking, hiking, disc golf, and backyard grilling. In the winter months, you can find me staying active on my Playstation Move or playing basketball at the Fieldhouse. I am a devoted Indianapolis Colts and IU basketball fan!
I chose to become a P.E. teacher because it combines two of my favorite things - moving and learning. I strive to incorporate problem solving and critical thinking into my lessons in addition to exercise. I also encourage teamwork and cooperation in my classes. I believe that a physical education environment should foster a child’s self-esteem as well as their motor development.
