Meet Mr. King

Welcome to 5th Grade.  I am very excited about the new school year we will have together.  I thought I would take this time to share some information with you about your new teacher.

I was born in Greenwood, Indiana.  I moved to Carmel just a few years ago and thoroughly enjoy living in the area.  My family consists of my parents, Ron and Anita, and my younger sister Renee. I graduated from Greenwood High School in 2004, after which I attended Butler University.  I graduated from my time as a Bulldog in 2008, going back to Butler to complete student teaching during the 2009-2010 school.  I student taught here at West Clay one semester in 5th Grade.  Throughout my time at Butler and in education I have worked with and taught students in all grade levels K-5.  The following year I was hired to teach 5th grade here at West Clay.  I spent the 2010-2011 and the 2011-2012 school years as a 5th grade teacher, then beginning in the 2012-2013 and the 2013-2014 school year I spent two years as a 4th and 5th Grade Challenge Teacher.  This year will be my 5th year teaching and I will again be a member of the 5th grade team.  I am very excited to be rejoining the 5th grade team as it is one of my favorite grade levels to teach. At West Clay I also participate as a teacher leader in my roles as the Spell Bowl Coach, Technology Coordinator, 5th Grade Musical Co-Producer, and WOLF TV Sponsor.  During my time teaching from 2011-2013, I also completed my Master’s Degree from the Indiana University School of Education with a degree in Elementary Education with Technology Focus.  As a teacher I truly believe students should be immersed in a classroom rich in learning from all mediums (books, art, music, technology, videos, web applications, etc.) this is the 21st Century World they will grow up to work in, therefore my Master’s Degree has helped me to integrate technology into the classroom on a regular basis.

Finally, I have many interest outside of school as well!  I thoroughly enjoy anything tech related (I love my Apple Products), I enjoy eating out and trying new restaurants, reading, bike riding, and watching football and college basketball.  I am an avid, die-hard Indianapolis Colts and Butler Bulldog fan and enjoy watching any game that either team participates in.

I look forward to working with all of you this year!
