If you are having trouble with homework, please let me know.  This should not be a stressful process.  You will receive a guided reading book once (for some twice) a week in a bag.  Your child may choose to do that as their reading assignment ( and NOT complete the class reading assignment). This can also be a  Read to Self, Read to Someone, or Listen to Reading!

Some suggestions:  Go to the Smoky Row first grade web page and click on the AAAMath site.  From there have your child practice first grade, addition math facts. This is an easy fun way for them to do this and it self corrects as well.

For reading fun, go to the Smoky Row web site, first grade and click on Starfall.com.  Scroll down to #3 and your child can have a story read to them or they can read it to themselves.

Some suggestions for the year:

Make a special place and time at home to complete homework

~if the homework is difficult, give some help, but not too much ~ help read and even write things if necessary for now!

~if the homework seems to be easily accomplished, ask more questions (see Language Arts)

Get good sleep and eat breakfast

~it is hard to concentrate if we haven't gotten enough sleep, so go to bed early

~it is true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day

Ask questions

~talk to each other about school

~How was recess?  Who did you play with? Who is someone new you could play with?

~What is the favorite part of the day and why?

~Could we make plans outside of school with someone new?
