This year in Social Studies we will focus on early American History beginning with the earliest Americans and leading up to the Civil War and Reconstruction period. Areas of study include colonization, American Indian Nations, the American Revolution, Westward Expansion, the Industrial Revolution, slavery, and the cultural divisions of the country that led to the Civil War. We will examine how political, geographic, economic, and cultural factors influenced the development of Indiana and the United States as outlined in the Indiana State Standards.
Throughout the course of the year, we will work to improve in the areas of note taking, organization, and time management in preparation for a successful high school career. We will also break down the responsibilities of active citizenship and realize how easy it is to relate the past to the present. Students will accomplish these goals through individual and group projects, current events, class discussions, open and closed note tests, and a variety of other learning tools.
