The West Clay Media Center serves students and staff with a collection of over 24,000 books, videos, DVDs, magazines, audio books, and equipment. There are 24 computers available for online catalog searches, information retrieval, and student projects.
The West Clay Media Center is staffed by Mrs. Musolino, who is a full time school library media specialist. Technology support is provided by our west side technicians in the building on a part-time basis to trouble shoot any problems that might arise and to provide technical support as needed.
The Library is open from 8:00-2:35. Most books may be checked out for two weeks and renewed as often as is needed by the student. Students should immediately notify Mrs. Musolino if a book has been lost or damaged. Students may check out 5 books per library visit in grades 3-5 and 3 books in grade 2, 2 books in grades K-1. Students may check out one magazine instead of a book. Students with overdue materials will be encouraged to return those materials as soon as possible. If the materials have been missing for an extended period of time, a notice will be sent home with the student reminding them to return the missing materials. When the student brings her/his books back to school, the classroom teacher will send the student to the library to return the books and check out more at a convenient time during the school day.
West Clay classes have "Cart Kids" who return carts to the media center on their library day. This allows our parent volunteers to process the returns in order to be ready for the students when the classes come in each day to check out. Parents, please help your child remember when it is her/his library day! Thank you :)
Parents are encouraged to visit the media center!
Selection of Materials
New material is carefully selected by the Library-Media Specialist to match both curriculum needs and student interest. The Library-Media Specialist consults professional resources such as the American Library Association, American Association of School Librarians, School Library Journal and School Library Media Activities Monthly in order to select the highest quality material.
